  1. Barack and Hillary… a love story

General consensus is that Hillary Clinton will win West Virginia by a landslide, thus adding to her recent victory in the state of Denial: Clinton shows no sign of giving up despite the seemingly insurmountable odds, calling the state a “crucial turning point.” She and former President Clinton have made 29 campaign stops in West Virginia; Obama has made three. Which he apparently counts as three separate states. Couldn’t resist… Yep, Hillary’s pretty much secured the Mountain State but Everest still lies ahead.

  3. Do Not Belittle Them

It is an unbearably hot and humid day in West Virginia in 1998. We are building a small flight of stairs for a family living in a mobile home; for hours we have been pounding nails, sawing, measuring, and sweating in the heat. “We” is a group of kids from Chicago on a mission trip to this impoverished state. The family is a single mother and her son, who have lived together her for several years. The stairs need to be built because recently the mother tripped on the makeshift staircase: a pair of cement blocks.

Where It All Went Wrong? A perennial feature every campaign season is the release of genealogies supposedly demonstrating which kings, past presidents and vaguely familiar names presidential candidates are related to. A lot of the work is done by genealogy hobbyists, sometimes assisted by the candidate’s own wild-ass claims. John McCain was recently called out for a bogus claim of descent from Robert The Bruce. Hunt To Kill And now Richard Nixon is nominated for historical orphanhood.

  5. International Women's Forum Cornerstone Conference

Buenos Aires, Argentina May 6-8 2008 Visiting the International Women’s Forum in Buenos Aires was both uplifting and disturbing. We met with and heard panels with speakers in high positions in government or political parties in Paraguay, Peru, Argentina, the Philippines and Morocco. The uplifting parts:All these women idealistically pursue notorious goals of improving education, healthcare and reducing corruption and crime. They all saw themselves as leading differently ─ many openly refer to their role as mothers guiding much of what they see as priorities and contributing to their styles of consensus building and developing others.

  6. Harvard Kennedy School Women's Leadership Board...

Check out the new site for this powerful group of important women leaders As we see the outpouring of support for both a woman and a black man running for president, I am struck by the progress we have made in the United States. So many have been touched by Barack Obama and many are pinning their hopes on Hillary Clinton. In both cases we see signaling of a true change and the turning to a new chapter. Around the world we see change at different cadences.

  7. The Hack Files: West Virginia Version

Yep, Jerome is at it again I thought that Obama would be able to close the margin in West Virginia, but none of the polls think he will. Obama went along with the outlandish prediction that he’d lose 80-20– that’s one way to tell West Virginians they don’t matter. Anyway, I’d better revise my thinking last month that Obama would close the gap. I find it amusing that Jerome wants to complain about “states which don’t count” when it was Hillary Clinton’s campaign who started the whole “some states count more than others” line.

The US gov’t has cremated American troops at a facility that also cremates pets. The Pentagon fed us propaganda after we invaded Iraq…You don’t say! A list of 5 Ways that Hillary Clinton can still win the democratic nomination…Spoiler alert: 1 of them involves changing the minimum voting age to 60. John McCain opposes US troops getting too educated. Medical marijuana just celebrated its 30th birthday in the USA! Congratulations marijuana! John McCain on Bush economy: 4 more years! Hillary’s “base” includes West Virginia voters who believe that Barack Obama is Muslim.

  9. Hillary wins the nomination!

… Either that or she’s in flat-out denial. I’d have been happy to vote for her, but c’mon, Hill, it’s getting embarrassing. Now, even republicans are supporting Barak. [side note: this video won a contest on MoveOn.org and remains probably the least believable thing I've seen all day. Including all of those maaagical rainbows that fell out of the sky into my morning coffee and supercharged me with the ability to shoot lightning from my eyeballs.]
