If you are a fan of soccer in the United States you better get familiar with the FOX Sports TV channel.

In a surprise announcement, FIFA is scheduled to award the English Language TV broadcasting rights to FOX.

ESPN had been the favorite to win, and issued the following comment regarding the FIFA bidding process.

"We made a disciplined bid that would have been both valuable to FIFA and profitable for our company, while continuing to grow our unprecedented coverage of the World Cup and Women's World Cup events,” ESPN spokesman Mike Soltys said in a statement. “We were aggressive while remaining prudent from a business perspective. . . ESPN remains committed to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and soccer as a whole.”

At the time of this writing, FOX Sports does not have an official comment, however they do publish a news feed which states they have been awarded the TV rights.

Congratulation to FOX Sports!
